Rainbow Fun for Spring Break
With the temps finally above freezing and sunshine more likely, you might be able to venture outside for an umbrella walk in the rain - on the lookout for a pot of gold at the end of a colorful rainbow.
- But even if Mother Nature decides to keep the spring thermostat set to chilly – you can still have Spring Break rainbow fun right inside your own house

Make Your Own Rainbow with a Pot o' Gold
Materials:
a glass of water, a beam of light, a piece of white paper, crayons, popcorn
Make Your Rainbow:
Rainbows are created when a beam of light is broken into its individual colors by shining through a prism (like a crystal or raindrops)
1. Find a beam of light. Sunshine coming in through a window is a great light source – but if it’s a cloudy day, just grab a flashlight instead.
2. Fill a glass with water, place it in the light beam, then look around to see if a rainbow appears.
3. It helps to have a piece of white paper sitting near the glass so the rainbow colors will really pop out. You’ll probably need to experiment a bit (that’s half the fun!) – tilting the glass or moving around the flashlight.
The Artsy Part:
Once you’ve made your rainbow, you’ll want to grab some Red-Orange-Yellow-Green-Blue-and Violet crayons to record the colorful display. While you’re at it, use that Gray crayon, too, to trace some of the non-rainbow - but still really cool - shadow lines that also appeared on the paper from the light bending through the glass.
The Pot o' Gold at the End of Your Rainbow:
Finally, take some time to enjoy a yummy treat of gourmet popcorn to celebrate your rainbows with an edible ‘pot of gold!’
